UK Vaping Products Duty – What You Need to Know

What is the new vape liquid tax?

The UK government is introducing a new Vaping Products Duty, which applies to most liquids intended for vaping. This includes nicotine liquids, nic salts, shortfills and prefilled pods.

• Applies to liquids containing nicotine
• May also apply to some nicotine‑free liquids intended for vaping
• Does not apply to hardware such as devices, coils or tanks

When does it start?

The new duty is scheduled to begin on 1 October. From this date, all eligible vape liquids sold in the UK will include the additional tax.

How will it affect prices?

The duty is based on the volume of liquid (ml). This means:

• Smaller bottles and pods will see a smaller increase
• Larger bottles and shortfills will see a bigger increase

Why is this tax being introduced?

The government states the aim is to:
